Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be shown a video with the idea of guessing which is going to be the lesson's topic. After watching the video, the topic will be revealed and students will discuss questions about it with the whole class

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students will be instructed to listen to a popular song and to fill in the blanks of different sentences. For this task, they will be working individually. Once they are finished, they will share their answers with the class.

Useful Language (4-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students will be introduced to a series of different idioms that are related to musical expressions. They will be instructed to match each idiom to the correct meaning. For this task students will be working in breaking rooms and later come back to the class to share their answers and get some feedback if needed.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice speaking and conversations

For the first speaking activity, students will be shown two images of popular musicians and be instructed to answer different questions about them. The time given for this task will be 10 minutes. For the second activity, students will observe a series of images that represent the different music trends according to the decades (60s, 80s, 90s). They will have to share which music decade is their favorite and elaborate on why. For this task students will also be given 10 minutes to discuss.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

During this last stage of the lesson. The teacher will correct some mistakes that she observed during the lesson and will also give time to students to clear their doubts and make some questions.
