Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have been better able to read for gist and for details in the context of facts and myths about food.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson. students will have been provided with a fluency speaking activity in the context of facts and myths about food.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

-Greet the students. -Display a picture of different types of food and ask the ss. ''What can you see here?'' -Mention my favorite types of food and how do they affect my health. -Ask ss. to discuss in pairs '' what are your favorite types of food? and try to fing something in common.'' -Ask ICQs to check their understanding. ICQs : Are you going to talk in groups?No. Are you going to find a common type of food with your partner? yes -Get the feedback.

Pre-Reading (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible by pre-teach the difficult vocabulary.

-Pre-teach the difficult words in the reading text through pictures and eliciting the words and their parts of speech.Words are(portion-vegetarian-fattening-melon and nuts- a balanced diet-vitamins and minerals) -Clarify the MFP of the words through ECDW techniques. CCQs are:(Are they important to feel healthy?/ Is it related to food that helps you be fat?/Is it full of sugar & fats?/Is it for a healthy lifestyle?/Is it for eating only vegetables and cheese?/Is it for the amount of food you eat?)

While-Reading (7-10 minutes) • to skim the main idea.

-Set the context of the reading text by displaying pictures of truths and myths about food and ask ss. which one is true and which one is false? -Elicit the answers from ss. - Ask learners to read the text quickly and match the headings to their right paragraphs. -Ask ICQs to check their understanding. ICQs are:- Do you read word by word or quickly? quickly Do you need to understand every word?No Do you read the first and the last lines of each paragraph to get the main idea quickly? yes -Demonstrate the first question with learners. -Monitor ss. through answering and support them if needed. -Ask ss. to check their answers in pairs. -Display the model answer for ss.

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading task. To read for details.

- Ask ss. to read the text and answer the related questions. -Ask ss. ICQs to check their understanding. ICQs are:Are you reading word by word to search for the answers? Yes Are the answers in the text? Yes -Demonstrate the first question with them. -Let ss answer individually through monitoring them and support them if needed. -Ask ss. to check their answers in pairs. -Provide learners with a model answer to check their answers.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Ask ss. to think of the most important information in the text and the most surprising one. -Ask ss. to write them in HO3 . -In groups ss. will share their opinions together and try to agree on one important and surprising information. -Monitor and listen to their points of view. -Ask each group ''what did they agree on?'' as a content feedback. -Ge the linguistic feed back on the board.
