In this lesson I am going to teach students new vocabularies about sports through the reading.

Materials

Abc Pictures

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Bad losers in the context of sports

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of sports in the context of Bad losers

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start to talk about the sports I like and also follow.Then I ask students to talk about the sports they like and follow.Then I want them to talk about their reactions in case of losing.

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Now I am going to teach the students highlighted words of the reading using some pictures.Then they are going to fill in the blanks of the reading individually and then check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students are going to answer the questions in part b on page 85 and then we will check the answers in the class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students are going to read the text deeply and then discuss about the questions in part e on page 85 in pairs and then with the whole class.

Post-Reading/Listening (2-3 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students are going to discuss about their losses or any interesting memories of them doing sports with the whole class.
