Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

As is my first lesson with the Ss I´ll take some minutes to get to know them and them to get to know me. I´ll ask them about their jobs, interests/hobbies and the reasons and purposes why they are studying English. Then we´ll do a “Get to know you” activity using a Word wall game https://wordwall.net/es/resource/29654537/ingl%c3%a9s/first-class-icebreaker Then we´ll start with the topic of the lesson, I´ll ask Ss to think of 2 cities they like and say two things the cities have in common and two differences they have.

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this moment of the lesson Ss will work with Practise ( Activities 1, 2 and 3) on page 68, to revise a little bit comparative forms. Afterwards, we´ll move on to page 68 and read together the text about Chelsea Market, which will expose Ss to the the target language of superlative forms. Then Ss will do Ex. 1 and 2 individually. We´ll check as a class and I´ll give them feedback. Then Ss will do Ex. 3 as a group and monitor and then provide feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I´ll ask Ss to underline all the example of superlatives forms they find in the text including the ones they wrote in the gap filling activity.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this moment of the lesson we´ll work on MFP of the target language, we´ll work with the Grammar Spot on page 68 and Grammar Reference 9.1 on page 136. We´ll read the Grammar Reference together and I´ll drill pronunciation and clarify any doubt Ss may have.

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

We´ll move on to page 69 where Ss will keep practising the target language. Ss will do Ex. 4 and 5 ( A Parisian in New York). Then they´ll keep practising a little bit more with Practise Activities 1, 2 and 3. They´ll do the activities individually and we´ll check as a class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-20 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In this moment of the lesson, I´ll tell Ss they are going to think of a city they love or hate and describe it using comparatives and superlatives, they are going to prepare a small talk about it, I´ll give them some pointers to help them write notes which they will use to give their talk. Pointers for Ss to write their notes: - Where is the city - What activities you can do - Food - Culture - People I´ll give them some time to prepare their notes and then they´ll give the talks to the class. I´ll write examples of goo language and things that can be improved or reformulated, aafterwards we´ll do delayed error correction and I´ll provide them feedback of their small talks.

Free Practice (8-14 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this stage of the lesson we´ll keep practising speaking a little bit more. I´ll ask Ss to ask their partners questions about the cities they talked about, using comparatives and superlatives. I´ll write them some examples of questions they can ask in the chatbox.
