Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Early Bird in the context of Morning Routine

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of useful phrases in the context of daily life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll start by talking about the difficulties that I had during the summer for waking up early, and ask the students if they are a morning person or not.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I am going to teach some new vocabularies and phrases by using pictures and also the text.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I'll ask them to tell me what times does Sara wake up, and what time does she go to bed everyday.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I'll ask them to match the questions in part B (page 86) to each paragraph and then we will check them together.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I'll ask the students what are the advantages of waking up early in the morning? and we'll discuss about it.
