Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show pictures or props related to weekend activities. Ask students to describe what they see in the pictures using simple sentences.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Introduce the modal verbs: "should," "shouldn't," "must," and "mustn't. Write them on the board and briefly explain their meanings in simple terms. Provide basic examples using these modal verbs.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Present students with sentences that use the modal verbs in basic forms. Practice forming sentences with the class. For example: "You should eat vegetables," or "You mustn't be late for school."

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • Enable students to actively use "should," "shouldn't," "must," and "mustn't" in spoken language to give advice and express necessity

Divide the class into pairs or small groups. Give each group a set of picture cards depicting different weekend activities. Students take turns giving advice to each other using the modal verbs in simple sentences. For example: "You should do your homework," or "You mustn't watch TV all day." Encourage them to use complete sentences. Monitor and provide assistance as needed.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Provide feedback on students' speaking and reading skills. Correct any basic errors in modal verb usage gently.
