in this lesson students learn about the verb patterns through guided discovery based on a reading text about the cyber hackers .

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about Adam mudd and Joel kioko

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of teenagers who can influence their own future

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

At first stage,I will ask some questions from students and pre-teach related words like slum,cyber hacker,ballet,scholarship,chaos,to crash the network,bullied,,notorious.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The next stage is dividing the class in two groups.A and B.Group A reads about Adam Mudd and Group B reads about Joel KioKo.Students work with others in their group to discuss and answer the statements1-7.Each student should take notes.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

After this,I will regroup the students in pairs so that each pair has a student from Group B.I will tell them to summarize the story they read,then read the true statements.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Next,I will ask students who do you think said each one and students will stay in their AB pairs to read the sentences. And i will write sentence frames on the board to help lower-level students:I think----said because.Actually,I will encourage them to find evidence in the text to support their decision.In feedback.I will encourage students to give me reasons for their choices.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

This is a free practice speaking activity which I should demonstrate the task to students by eliciting one question they would like to ask Joel.At first I should model the activity with one student and then I will divide the class into A and B groups. Group A students work together to create a list of questions to ask Joek.Group B think of questions for Adam.Every student will write the questions.After that I will monitor the groups to support the question writing.And finally i will regroup the students in pairs so that each pair has a student from Group A and one from group B.And finally I will choose two to three pairs of students to act out in front of the classs.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

At this stage,I will put students in groups of three and assign roles:the leader reads the questions and the reporter is in charge of sharing the group opinions with the class.Finally I will ask the students how can each teenager influence their own future and who needs more help?

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In the last stage,There is a competition and I will ask students to find verb patterns in the articles and count them.
