Procedure (45-55 minutes)
I will start the lead In by explaining the subject of the day as well as the objectives and aims of the class. I will show them slides with some pictures of working teams and ask how they would describe them, and what they think it requires to be in one. I will acknowledge that the target language is: Vocabulary, idiomatic expressions about behavior and attitude.
To provide a model of production I have chosen Exercise 2.a (Audio 3.1), which includes a box with idiomatic descriptions of attitude. The learners listen to the recording which includes four conversations that describe the expressions in the box. The learners must identify the correct matching sentence with their partner. This will activate their productive skills for the upcoming task.
For this stage, I will explain with a jamboard slide what an idiomatic expression is. For the purpose of meaning clarification, I have chosen exercise B on page 26, which will be adapted for the purpose of this lesson as a questionary in google forms. The learners are instructed to use the 8 phrases in a box to replace the italics in subsequent sentences underneath. They will further discuss for a couple of minutes if one of the phrases matches their own personality.
The students will go to the breakout rooms with their respective partner, and they will write together a 4 to 6 line dialogue using the descriptions of attitude they already learned. They will produce the dialogue according to their own personality, and then they will share it or act it out in the main room, taking turns.
On this final stage, we will wrap up the session with conclusions and a general feedback. Learners will be able to ponder on their descriptions, and have a chance to use the target language to compose them. By producing a dialogue and reading it aloud to their partners, the students are learning by doing, with an approach to a real life scenario.
