'Be going to' Future Tense - Elementary level

Description

In this lesson, students will learn to talk about their future plans, fixed arrangements or predictions in future through a text which is about a man who was going to a conference and hoping to meet up with his friend. It will be followed by a speaking task about the students' future plans.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start to talk about my plan for the weekend, that yesterday I bought theater ticket and I am going to see the show with some of my friends.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I am going to ask my students to talk about their future plans.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some of my students' sentences on the board and if some of them have made wrong examples, I will write the the correct form of the sentences on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will start eliciting the meaning by working on the examples on the board. Also I will mention its uses and when this tense refers to. I am going to elicit the form from the students and will help them find it out when needed.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to exercise on page 95 individually and then going to check in pairs. The answers will be checked with the whole class at the end. They have 8 minutes to do the task and check in pairs

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will give my students some pictures of some people doing different things and I will ask them to work in pairs and say which plan dose each person have for their weekend.
