Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of Vocabulary,Phonics and Sight Word List #1

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice the learnt vocabulary in their written and spoken language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Show SS photos and ask them what are these photos

Exposure (20-25 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Discuss PPT -Let SS read PPT -Ask any Q's about the PPT -Elicit the words and let SS repeat.

Highlighting #: Vocabulary Words (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Put the Show and Tell Day passage on the board and let SS read it in their groups and extract the vocabulary words from the context (to exercise skim reading). -Let SS figure out which word is not in the passage as a game (first group to find it gets from the compliment cards).

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Quickly go through Vocabulary words and synonym again (Pages: 5,6). -Let SS start practicing in the Vocabulary Booklet individually (Page: 7). -Let SS peer correct in pairs. -Show corrections on the board.

Hightlighting #2: Phonics List (5-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Recognize short vowels -Introduce clapping syllable to SS -Explain syllables as a class (Page: 12,13) (5 mins).

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-Let SS start practicing in their Vocabulary Booklets individually (Page: 10) (2 mins). -Allow peer correction (1 mins). -Let SS practice individually (Page 14) (2 mins). -Allow peer correction (1 mins).

Free Practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Let SS play Syllabus Game in groups

Highlighting #3: Sight Words (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Let SS read the sight words

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Show SS sample of what they need to do for their HW (Page: 16).
