Description

In this lesson the students will listen to the audio and follow the text Show and Tell Day, then answer questions.

Materials

Abc Cambridge Primamry English: Learners's Book 2
Abc Reading Booklet
Abc Skimming and Scanning PPT
Abc Audio Recording of the Show and Tell Day

Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about show and tell day in the context of Unit 1: Friends and Family

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a short presentation in the context of their favourite toy

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Talk about the pictures 1- Who are your friends at school and at home? 2- What is your family like?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Discuss Scanning Vs. Skimming PowerPoint -Ask SS questions about PPT -Respond to any questions they have in regards to skimming or scanning -Let SS take notes and listen

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-SS will listen to the audio recording about The Show and Tell Day while following along (will repeat it twice) (Audio Recording is 2:05) -Discuss the concept of Show and Tell as a class

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading/listening tasks

-SS will answer questions about the text in pairs. (Q#1,2) -Check the answers as a class. -SS will play a word game in pairs (Q #4,P:13)

Post-Reading/Listening #1 (20-30 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-SS present their Show and Tell objects in front of the class, each student has max 1 minute to present. -SS will write two good things about their peers presentation and one thing to improve on a separate sheet of paper.

Post-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Let SS discuss what are the difference between scanning and skimming from the Reading Booklet P: 3,4,5
