Procedure (45-55 minutes)
Start by asking the students some general questions about shopping, such as what their favorite stores are, what they like to buy, and where they usually go shopping. This will help to get them thinking about the topic and generate some discussion.
Introduce the students to some basic vocabulary related to shopping in the United States by reading an article about shopping in Orlando. Whiteboard, projector or flashcards.
This could include words like store, aisle, checkout, cashier, price tag, discount, sale, and return. Culture: It's also important to teach the students about some of the cultural aspects of shopping in the United States. For example, you can explain that it's customary to tip the cashier in restaurants and that stores often have sales and discounts.
Have the students write a shopping list and imagine walking through the mall to buy the items. Have them discuss among themselves some of the things they would like the most to do at the mall. This will help them to solidify the vocabulary and phrases that they have learned.
