To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of emotions and feelings
Procedure (33-45 minutes)
Show a video of emoticons' which is a common thing all of them use in their daily lifes. Ask before watching "Why do we use these things?" and "What do they mean?" Give SS 2 mins to talk after watching the video and get a feedback from every pair.
Show HOs to students Ask them to stand up - work in pairs and find the lexis sticked outside of the classroom. Give SS HOs to match definitions with the adjectives. Put answer key on the board when all SS went outside. Monitor during. Get them to check with other pairs. Get w/c feedback.
Ask SS to talk with their pairs "why some of the adjectives end with -ed and why the others end with -ing?" Give 1 min to talk. Monitor during. Ask for feedback. Hand them out the form questions (HOs), ask them to answer the questions with their pairs. Monitor while they are on the task. Pick a pair as an answer key. Drill the lexis Ask where the stresses are and ask the part of speech
From the DVD, enlarge the quiz part (ex:2A) and ask SS to answer the questions in pairs. Monitor while they are asking and answering the questions. Do error correction if necessary.
Show HOs to SS, ask them to complete the sentences with the correct form of the adjectives they see in QUIZ. Monitor during Peer check - get w/c feedback. ask them to read them to their pairs and change the sentences so that they are true for them. Monitor during Give delayed feedback if necessary.
Set the freer task, Ask a question "How emotional are you?" Try to give examples and explaination for all by using the adjectives ending with -ing/-ed... Ask SS to discuss in groups. Write an example sentence on the board "When I find out our English teacher is giving us a test this week, It would be a bit confusing but I would be pleased. Monitor during, take notes, give delayed feedback.
