The students will speak about/debate the advantages and disadvantages of tourism.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation/debate in the context of advantages and disadvantages of tourism.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of tourism/economical/environmental in the context of advantages and disadvantages of tourism.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. In pairs, think of the benefits of tourism to the tourists and the country they are visiting. 2. Write down some of your ideas in the notebook. 3. Share your ideas with the teacher. 4. The teacher will write down some ideas and the generated vocabulary on the board.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. The students will read the new vocabulary and try to figure out the meaning by themselves. 2. The teacher will ask CCQs to check for understanding. 3. Chorally drill some of the difficult new words.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1. Write the three aspects of tourism on the board (Economic, environmental, and cultural). 2. Divide the class into three teams. Each team will discuss the pros and cons of tourism on the aspect. 3. Ask the students to share and write their ideas on the board. 4. Ask the students to read the pros and cons of each aspect and see if they are similar to their ideas or not.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. The students will read the six questions. 2. The teacher will ask CCQs to check for understanding. 4. The students will take turns asking each other the questions. 5. The teacher will provide support on the language.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

At the end of the speaking task the teacher will provide feedback on the fluency and accuracy.
