The students will write 150-200 words about the world's new seven wonders.

Main Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of an article about the new seven wonders of the world in the context of travel and tourism.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about the new seven wonders of the world in the context of travel and tourism.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. In pairs, list the new seven wonders of the world. 2. Know their location on the world map/in the seven continents. 3. Share your findings with the teacher.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

In pairs or small groups, research the following: 1. Their location. 2. Their historical significance (how old and why they were built). 3. The best time to visit them. 4. Share your findings with the teacher.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. Use the student's findings to reformulate and provide support on the language. 2. Write the new language on the board and ask CCQs to check their understanding of the meaning. 3. Ask the students to use the new language when writing about the new seven wonders.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The students will begin writing

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

1. The teacher will pick a random sample of the writings. 2. Discuss some of the common mistakes with the students. 3. Write the mistakes on the board and ask the students to think of the correct forms.
