T shows Ss a paragraph and models the process of outlining the paragraph, organizing arguments, and providing evidence from the text. Then, there is a class discussion for strategies for using critical language effectively to support arguments.
T writes a writing prompt related to the text, such as: "Write an argumentative paragraph either supporting or refuting Bertrand Russell's advice on avoiding foolish opinions." and instructs Ss to brainstorm arguments and supporting points based on their analysis of the text.
T encourages Ss to create an outline for their argumentative paragraph and asks them to clearly state their thesis and organize their supporting arguments logically by using T's modeling as a reference, emphasizing clarity and coherence.
T puts Ss in pairs and has them exchange papers. Then, T instruct Ss to review their partner's paragraph and provide constructive feedback using the "Peer Review Checklist".
T asks Ss to revise and edit their paragraphs based on the peer feedback received using the rubric.
