Description

In this lesson, students will undertake a short review of daily life vocabulary. They will then undertake some exercises concerning frequency adverbs. Students will then complete some pair work to address an outstanding exercise from the Student book. Finally students will undertake a speaking activity where they are required to talk to each other about their respective daily routines using the present simple tense, whilst incorporating frequency adverbs, they are also required to provide peer feedback as part of this exercise.

Main Aims

  • TO BEGIN TO PROVIDE A DEGREE OF FLUENCY AND ACCURANCY WITH THE OVERALL GOAL BEING TO BEGIN TO DEVELOP SPEAKING AND LISTENING SKILLS AND CONFIDENCE . THIS WILL HELP STUDENT TO UNDERSTAND THE TYPES OF QUESTIONS IN THE IELTS TEST AND HELP STUDENT ACHIEVE A GOOD GRADE

Subsidiary Aims

  • TO BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF CORRECTION AND PEER FEEDBACK.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

This part of the lesson will focus upon a short review of vocabulary associated with daily routines. It will more than likely feature an interactive game that will serve to activate and test students existing knowledge and will also serve to engage all students in an interesting and encouraging way.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

This part of the lesson will focus upon the usage of the most common frequency adverbs, and will provide a model of production for the forthcoming speaking and listening tasks. Students will also be exposed to the precise requirements of each task , with specific attention paid to the 'peer feedback/correction component.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

This part of the lesson will focus upon adverbs of frequency, how to use sequencing words effectively and cohesively and the importance of aiming to gain a degree of 'fluency' when speaking. Peer Feedback will also be clearly explained.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

This part of the lesson will take the form of 3 activities. Firstly, concluding an exercise from Friday 8th September. Secondly, students asking each other about their daily routine, replying to questions using the ' present simple' and frequency adverbs. Finally, students will provide feedback to their peer using prepared feedback questions which are detailed in their Student book.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

ICQ's will be asked prior to students undertaking speaking activities and I will circulate the classroom to ensure students are completing all tasks as described. Today I will be focusing on production and use of language. Students will be self correcting and providing feedback on their peers work in the lesson.
