To provide process writing practice of a letter in the context of hopes and wishes from our young self

To provide gist reading practice using a text about a letter to our young self in the context of hopes and wishes.
Procedure (36-47 minutes)
Ask the question "Have you ever watched Back to the future?" Elicit some information about the movie or explain the context if not given. "This guy travels 30 years back in time and has some information about the future". Play the video ask what information he has about the future? doc brown will die what does he do to let doc brown know that? he writes him a letter if you could write a letter to your younger self, what would it say?
Model letter 1 as an example. Give 1 minute to read and find the next three things: 1. What kind of letter is it? Why? Informal or formal? Informal 2. What sections do you see in the text? Salutation, introduction, body, closing, signature. 3. What is the purpose of the letter? Life update. Extra questions: Is it a happy letter or a sad one? How you think the person who is writing this letter feels? Happy, proud, disappointed, surprised. Make students match the sections of the letter in Jamboard. What are other alternatives for each section? Salutation: Hello, hi, dear, my lovely teddy bear... Introduction: I wish... Hopefully you're... Closing: Yours truly, yours sincerely, with love...

Make students check each other using the checklist and correct wrong answers if they are, in OCF. Checklist: Is the letter informal? Does it include one wish for their young self? Does it include one or two facts about their actual life? Does it include one thing that is about to happen? Does it include a closing and a signature?
