Description

In this lesson the students are going to learn about past perfect by reading an article about news around the world.Then they are going to talk about an accident that happened for them when they were young to realize the difference between past simple and past perfect.

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a past perfect in the context of accidents

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start to talk about an accident that happened when I was younger which I emphasize on past perfect while I'm talking.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Now I ask the students to talk about one of their childhood accidents.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some past perfect sentences on the board by asking my students to give me some example in which they have to use past perfect and I fix their errors while I'm writing on the board.

Clarification (3-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I start to talk about the use of past perfect, Then I'm going to clarify the difference between past simple and past perfect by showing a timeline and explaining when the action in past perfect took place.

Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise d on page 93 separately, Then they are going to compare it with their partner.Then I will ask some students to read their examples for everyone.

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The students are going to do the exercises on page 149 separately and then they are going to check it with their partner.Then we check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (0-0 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to write about some famous accidents at home using past perfect.
