Second conditional lesson

Description

In this lesson students learn about second conditional. The class will start with a question from some students about what would they do id they were/had ... . Then i will show them whats the correct way to talk about this case.At the end we will have a fun speaking discussion about what would they do if they saw a cow or horse attacking or what would they do if they saw a mouse or snake by secretly using second conditional.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Second conditional in the context of hypothetical situations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation about fun hypothetical situations in the context of scary animals , attacking creatures or etc

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will mention some interesting hypothetical imaginary or real topic and will give some comments by my POV. I will be asking students about their response or reaction facing some of these situations. It will be fun and i will remember some of their thoughts so that I can use them in highlighting.

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Im gonna mention some of their thoughts and by using board I will write them down and draw their attention towards the correct way we should talk about this subject.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will explain and clarify the form of second conditional by using board and explaining my CCQ. I will talk about the comma we should put and negative/question form of it. And at the end I will talk the usage of was and were and can we use both or not.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Im gonna write/give/ask some questions for/from students guided by American file based on page 143 and after they answered I will give them feedbacks based on TL to end this part.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

We will focus on speaking. I will give one of my students an interesting situations scary or funny and then I will ask him/her to ask others the same kind of question so that it becomes a fun activity. My main focus will be having fun but in case if needed i will mention the mistakes they have and correct them without individually mentioning them and the end of discussion so that we can have a more productive conversation.
