Description

In this lesson students learn about past tenses in a story, how they can understand when to use which one. The topic is about sport and superstitious.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of Past tenses in the context of Sport

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Superstitions and sport

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will read the title and ask about the word "sacrifice" Ask them some Qs about their experiences. (Have you ever sacrificed something?) T will ask them to read the text and tell me their opinion about Alistair. ( What would you do if you were Alistair?)

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T will ask them to find different past tenses from the text. T will elicit formula and engage them with the structure.

Teach (5-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T will write an example from the text on the board and draw the timeline. T will explain about tenses individualy.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T will give them HO1 about the grammar and ask them to do it about 3 minutes. Then check together.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Speaking part. Choose 1 topic and plan what you're going to talk about. In pairs or 3ppl. They should use telling an anecdote box.

Activation (3-5 minutes) • To improve their understanding of grammar from a listening

T will give them lyrics of a singer about past tenses. First they should recognize the mistakes in the lyric. Then they should find tenses.
