Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a description of their daily life

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about an average morning

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T tells Ss that they'll be doing a writing lesson today T shares screen and opens PowerPoint T asks Ss what kinds of things they do in the mornings and gets a few answers from Ss

Layout (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T shares link to Google Forms and briefly demos how to do the task. T gives 5 minutes to do activity. After 5 minutes, T shares screen and goes over the answers with Ss

Sample analysis-language (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T shares screen with Ss and goes to PowerPoint. T asks whole class to analyze the example morning and find all of the simple past tense verbs as a Guided Discovery task. This is to be done together. T edits a PowerPoint slide to reflect the rules that students discover as it happens. T gives grammar rules to Ss as needed (in case they're not understanding).

Productive Task(s) (19-21 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T tells Ss that they have a writing task to do on Jamboard. T shares screen and opens Checklist, reviews rules of checklist. T opens JamBoard and shows students how to open a textbox on Jamboard. T assigns each student a number on Jamboard. T shares Jamboard link to chat. T shares Checklist link to chat.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T assigns breakout rooms with 2 students in each breakout room; students judge each other based on the checklist
