Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of free days and time.
Procedure (31-44 minutes)
Introduce question "How do you normally spend a free day?". Give my own example: I like hanging out with my boyfriend, watching a movie and spending time with my friends. Ask S1 "How do you normally spend a free day?" Make S1 ask S2 the question and respond. Let students talk for 2 minutes.
Present Imogen, make student 1 read the text. Ask: What is Imogen's job? Is she happy with her job? Present next slide with three facts about her free day and ask CCQ's Are these things happening in the present or in the past? In the present. Do these things continue happening or are they finished? They continue happening. Introduce Present Continuous formula.
Give students 1 or 2 minutes to complete the PC formula. Subject + am-is-are + verb + ing. Ask them to NOT drag the words but WRITE in the boxes. ICQ's Are you going to drag the words? No. Are you going to write in the boxes? Yes. Do OCF. Spend 5 minutes. Give form for the correct usage of PC. "You need to choose the correct use of PC, there is more than one correct answer. You have 1 or 2 minutes to solve this." ICQ's Is there only one correct answer? No. How much time do you have to do this? 1 or 2 minutes. Check this in OCF. Spend 5 minutes. Present pronunciation of contractions. Solve contractions in OCF asking specific students the correct answer. After all solved, pronounce each together. Spend about 5 minutes.
Provide form with PC sentences. Make student repeat formula before doing the sentences. Do the first one together and then give 6 to 8 minutes to solve this. Make students check each other in BoR if there are enough students before solving this in OCF.
Read instructions and then give students 2 minutes to think about their perfect free day. Give each student 3 to 5 minutes to talk about their perfect free day. Do some corrections if necessary.
