  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of board games

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Play a recording with board game sounds. Then greet ss and ask how they've been. 1min 2. Ask what the sound evokes. A: board games. 1min* 3. Show slides with board games. (share the link as well) 4. Ask questions: a. Do you like board games? b. Do you play board games often? With whom? what game? Discuss in break out rooms 3-4min 5. Feedback. Share some answers by nominating ss. 1min

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-11 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. Give instructions: "I'll send you the link to a jamboard and you guys have to match the correct definition/meaning and what type of language it is for each word in bold" 1min (new words: buzz, forbidden, thriving, meeple) 2. Put ss in breakout rooms to do the activity. 4min 3. Feedback. 5min a. Check answers. Ask ss for their answers. b. Practice pronunciation. c. Ask them to use the word in a sentence with those words. (nominate them)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. Give instructions: T shows the first part of the reading in the main room and asks ss to skim. T asks the following questions: a. What's the text about? b. Would you go to a place like this? 3min 2. Ss answer questions briefly. 2-3min

While-Reading/Listening #2 (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1. T asks ss to read the second part of the text paying attention to details for the trivia after the reading. 5min 2. T send invitation for kahoot! trivia (most likely it will be a link for the web page). 1-2min. 3. Kahoot! trivia 3-4min.

Post-Reading/Listening (9-11 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. T gives instructions: "I´m going to put you in breakout rooms. I want you to create a game with your classmates. You can use as reference the ones we saw today. Be brief. There's a list with some ideas on the slides" 1:30min 2. Ss in breakout rooms create a game based on the games they saw in the lesson (e.g. Pandemic, Citadels, sushi go!, kahoot!, Catan, etc.) 5 min. 3. T asks nominating: a. What's the context of your game? b. What's the main goal of your game 1-2min 4. Error corrections. 3min
