Main Aims

  • To enable students to talk about hypothetical situations in the present in the context of personal desires.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students with an audio track to practice their listening skills.
  • To provide students with a controlled exercise to practice peer correction.
  • To provide students with a freer exercise to practice their speaking skills.
  • To enable students to self-correct and do peer correction in the feedback and delayed error correction stage.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show two images and have ss answer the two driving questions. Brief feedback.

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Show the model text Play the audio. Do the first item together. Resume and have ss do the rest alone. OCFB - Show the answers and ask if there's any question.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING Show slides 4 - 10 FORM Show slides 11 - 14 PRONUNCIATION Show slide 15 - 20

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Show the activity and brief explanation Share the exercise and give instructions Ss complete the activity in pairs in BORs Show the answer key and have ss check the answers. Answer any question that may arise.

Free Practice (11-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss go to BORs in pairs Ss hypothesize about topics they find appealing - 5 min Ss go for a second round with swapped partners - 5 min OCFB 1 or 2 ss max

Delayed Error Correction • To provide students with examples of mistakes to correct and good use of language.

Give brief FB Give DEC -good language -errors -reformulation
