Main Aims

  • to provide practise of vocabulary in the context of describing life events.

  • to provide practise in speaking in the context of describing life events.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Teacher will greet Ss and ask them how are you today? -Teacher will write on the board (what is the best and the worst event/ moment that happens in your life? -Give them one minute to think then tell them to discuss with your partner. -Listen to their answers.

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

(chest) tell Ss to look at the photo and tell me what is it (elicit) -ex.1 tell them to put the life events incorrect category. -ask ICQ. *Are you going to put the phrases in any place in the category or in the right one? -tell them to work alone first. -Teacher will monitor to make sure they are on task and may help them if they need. write down the phrases that they don’t know to teach them in the teaching stage. -let them check in pairs. -give them feedback. -Show them the two questions in 1.b and let them discuss them together from ex.1.a(chest) -Ask ICQs *How many questions do we have? *your answer is according to exercise what. - then listen to their answers.

Teach (10-12 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

-Teacher will ask CCQs about the difficult words(activity no.1) and elicit from them the meaning. -drill the words first then let them repeat it then write or show the word in the board or slide and try to elicit from them the stress and the form. (chest)tell them to choose four topics (phrases)from ex1 p.40 and discuss them with their partner and tell them to try to ask follow up questions. -or they can tell their story by using the phrases from ex.1 p.40, something like start school, pass the exams, go to university, graduation,..........it will be according to the time. -Teacher will monitor to make sure they are on task and may help them if they need and write down their mistakes. * ask them about their answers.
