FUE Demo - Second conditional

Description

In this lesson, Ss will learn about the second conditional through a listening track about "illegal downloading". The lesson starts with a discussion about a local incident of the arrest of an internet website manager. This is followed by listening to a recording to set the context and later highlighting and clarifying the second conditional. Finally there will be a controlled practice followed by a free practice through pair work.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of illegal downloading.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show a picture of Egybest website and ask them: -Do you know this website? / what is it for? / Have you tried using it? / do you think it's legal? I will then share with Ss a personal story of using this website and ask them to have a conversation over these questions: Do you think it's legal to use these kinds of websites? why/why not? does it depend on the type of material you are downloading? why/why not?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Set the task and ask student to listen and answer the 2 provided questions. -play the recording 1 time and a second time if Ss need to. - Show Ss the answer key. ICQs: how many speakers are you going to listen to? what are they going to talk about? how many questions are you going to answer? what are they?

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss will listen to the reason recording to finish the complete task. I will then highlight one of the reasons for the students. I will either show it to them or write it on the board.

Clarification (7-9 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Elicit the rule through a multiple choice practice followed by a clarification. I will add a question to the task " which clause is an imaginary situation, which clause is a result. I will also highlight the punctuation of the sentence.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for the semi-controlled practice.

I will show the Ss the task on the projector and ask them to find it in their book. I will explain the task then I will show the answer key after they finish.

Semi- controlled practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for the free practice.

I give students time to complete the sentences then have a short discussion over it.

Free Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will divide students to two pairs, student A and student B, demo the task for them, then give them to practice. I will observe the students without crowing them and give an open class feed back after they finish.
