  • To provide detailed listening practice using a video in the context of asking and answering questions about oneself

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Lead in- T introduces himself Gives a brief anecdote about culture shock in Nicaragua apropos kissing on the cheek as a greeting Ask individual students what they do in their country when they meet someone new--e.g., shake hands/ fist bump/cheek kiss Then direct students to watch the video of two people meeting for the first time

Exposure/content preparation (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Video 1 T plays short video to get students used to TL T asks Ss to name 1 thing each about the girl and the guy, elicits answer Video 2 T plays longer video to get students used to TL T pauses the video at 6 minutes T asks Ss to name 1 thing each about the girl and the guy, elicits answer

Useful Language (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T gives Guided Discovery task- Google Forms Language Prep- to Ss (5 min) T models one question on the task for Ss and uses CCQ to clarify directions Then present PowerPoint of TL, cover MFP, elicit MFP as much as possible (7 min)

Ss do role play in pairs; they take turns being the one who is asking and answering questions T demos with one student T shares link to vocab "cheat sheet" on google docs Ss work in breakout rooms and switch between pairs as time allows T monitors BORs and occasionally gives feedback

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T gives feedback based on Free Practice T elicits correct answers from Ss as much as possible
