Procedure (34-25 minutes)
1. The teacher will begin the class by asking the question: Why do people travel? 2. The teacher will ask the students to make a short list of reasons they think people travel for. 3. The students will then discuss it among each other in pairs or small groups. 4. After they are done discussing it they will share their ideas with the teacher.
1. The students will watch a short conversation between two friends about travelling. 2. The teacher will ask the students to choose a couple of questions about travelling from a list of questions to ask their classmates. 3. The teacher will ask the students to exchange the questions. 4. The students will ask and answer the questions in pairs. 5. The teacher will provide support on the language.
1. The students will first take a minute to read the following vocabulary about travel: Phrases 1. Take/go on a vacation to somewhere 2. Go sightseeing 3. Take a sightseeing tour somewhere 4. Go on a cruise 5. Sign up for guided tours 6. Come on a package holiday 7. Travel during the offseason 8. Have the time of my life/the holiday of a lifetime Words to describe tourist attractions 1. The students will repeat them chorally after the teacher. 3. The teacher will briefly go through the meaning of each.
1. The teacher will divide the students into two groups A&B. 2. Group A will receive a set of questions about travelling. 3. Group B will receive a different set of questions about travelling too. 4. The students will take a minute to read the questions. 5. The teacher will then ask the students to walk around the class and engage each other in conversations about travel using the questions. Students from the same group can not ask each other questions. 6. The teacher will provide minimal support only if needed.
1. At this stage, the teacher will provide feedback on fluency and accuracy. 2. The teacher will also highlight some of the common pronunciation and grammar mistakes during the student's conversations.
