Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide clarification of gossip, direct speech, reported/indirect speech in the context of Gossiping.
Procedure (25-36 minutes)
First, I write a few sentences on the board. Then I ask the students to tell me whether these sentences are familiar to them or not. And this is how I explain the word "Gossip" to them.
I draw on the board a picture of a situation where two people are talking about someone, and it is actually the actual form of gossip that the students elicited earlier. After that, I want them to do the exercise on page 94, part A in pairs. Then they will share the answers with the whole class.
After the students have shared the answers with the class, I will explain on the board the direct and indirect report and how the tenses of the verbs may change.
They will do the exercise at page 149, part 12B.
I will tell the students to imagine that you went to a party yesterday and now tell your friend about the clothes you wore and what happened at the party (direct speech). Then your friend have to tell the rest of the group what you said. (indirect speech).
