Description

In this lesson, students learn how to use Past Continuous based on a text about the 44th United States election. The lesson starts with the teacher's terrible experience on a flight. then the teacher teaches how and when we use past continuous(mfp). Student read a text from American English File 2 lesson 2B and find past continuous in the text and do some exercises . Finally, students share a memory of a special day or moment in their life.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher talks about their terrible experience on a flight and their feeling at that moment. She asks students if they had the same experience, and share their feeling with the class.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

while students talk about their experiences the teacher listens and corrects them if they had a mistake in grammar. Then the students read an article in American English File 2 and answer how many Past continuous tenses they find in the text.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage, the teacher teaches what is past continuous, how and when we use it! and teaches the situations that we use the past continuous.

Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, the teacher asks each student to do the exercise 2B on page 129(Grammar Bank) and checks all answers in pair and the with whole class.

Free Practice (3-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this stage, the teacher asks students to talk about one of the special moments or day of their life and share with the class what was their feeling like at that time (using past continuous).
