Materials

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of the present perfect in the context of conversations about television and series.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of conversations about television and series.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask students if they have seen any good TV series on TV. I will share a padlet link so they can add their ideas to the padlet with pictures.

Exposure (8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will provide students with four dialogues about TV shows and ask them a gist question to answer: Do the people in the conversations enjoy watching television? Do people talk more about movies or TV? Fernando: Have you seen many shows on TV, José? José: Yes, I have seen many cooking shows on TV.   Jessica: Has your brother gone to the movie theatre to see the new comedy? Elizabeth: No, he hasn’t, but he has just written a nice review about a show on Netflix.   Daniel: Have you watched the new reality show on TV? Óscar: Yes, I have. It is very entertaining.   Vanessa: Have you been to Universal Studios in Hollywood? José: Yes. I went there last summer.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will highlight three areas where we use the present perfect: experiences/ to announce something you've done recently and to communicate a connection to the now. I will give them some example sentences and will elicit when they are being used.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will go through the meaning, form, and pronunciation of the present perfect.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will give them a cheat sheet from Google Docs to use to help them with the irregular verbs and participles. Then, I will have them complete the questions in Google Forms, filling in the gaps of some similar sentences. They will check their answers with a partner.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will ask each other conversation questions about the topic in BOR: Have you seen any good shows on TV recently? Have you ever seen a famous actor in public? What activities have you done many times this week? Have you ever been on television? What is an interesting food you have eaten while watching TV?
