Description

In this lesson,Students will learn how to describe a person in terms of their appearances and personalities.They will learn some new words related to the topic on the coursebook.There is a reading text and I am trying to prepare them to read the text easily.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of how to describe people in the context of appearance and personality

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of appearance and personality words in the context of Describing people
  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a track about appearance and personality in the context of describing a person

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Reflect 4 pictures on the board and for two of them ask Ss "what are their jobs?" and "why do they think so?" For the other pictures ask "How do they feel?" and ask " How do they understand?" Ss are expected to discuss in whole class and share the ideas.

Listening for gist (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through listening

Ss listen to a man describing his girlfriend and Ss are expected to put tick her picture in an optional part.Ss share their ideas with their partners.Teacher asks them the correct answer and also "why"

Listening for details and Highlighting (5-15 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Before Listening the track again,T asks them to be careful with the questions and the answers.T gives them a handout which some parts of the information is written and asks them to fill in individually and check in pairs. Reflect the correct answers on the board and highlight the questions and the answers with a different colours in order to emphasise on the meaning. Ss are expected to understand the difference between the questions and how to say some physical appearance with "verb to be" and "have/has"

Clarification with a Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T gives them handout 3 to match the definition of the word with their definitions and write the opposite words. T changes pairs in order to make them more sociable and be engaged to the lesson. Ss are expected to check the answers in pairs and the correct answers are reflected on the board and check them easily. T asks them form of the words and sentence structure and pronunciation of the words.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives them a handout 2 to match the sentences and pictures for physical appearance exercise.Ss check the answers with another handout which the correct answers are written.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Put people's pictures on the walls and ask Ss go around the class and talk about them in pairs.T guides them to think in terms of physical appearance and personalitiy.

Feedback and Error Correction (2-3 minutes) • To correct their mistakes and be sure that they understand the target language

Write some incorrect words or sentences that have been heard while monitoring the Ss and ask them to find the mistakes and share with the whole class.
