Abc Model & Preparation

Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of speaking (for fluency) about life circles

Subsidiary Aims

  • To introduce useful language to facilitate speaking

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T greets Ss, asks them how they are doing. - T asks Ss to look at the pictures while thinking about the different stages of life - T asks Ss to think about if there are any moments from their past or present that stand out

Model (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T asks Ss to listen to the audio and identify important facts from the speakers' lives T instructs Ss to take notes while listening

Preparation (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T provides Ss with some useful language to use later when doing the speaking task. The phrases are grouped into two categories: 'to explain' and 'to ask'

Speaking (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice speaking for fluency

T instructs Ss to work in pairs and explain their life circles to each other; answering any questions their partner has. T switches Ss around to have them practice with another partner

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T provides Ss with feedback on content and language based on monitoring of the task.
