Description

In this lesson, students will get to use their background knowledge of practical English vocab in the context of hotel conversational situations. It will be a Test Teach Test lesson as students have some sort of background on the topic. Through the language clarification stage, I will deal with stress, pronunciation and intonation. Finally, for the productive part students will role-play a conversation between a hotel receptionist and a resident.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, students will have been provided with a language clarification regarding the topic at hand.
  • By the end of the lesson, students will have been tested on their background knowledge to review certain hotel useful language phrases.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have practiced using the target language in the context of role-playing a hotel conversation.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll show Ss pictures of people travelling and I 'll ask where do you usually stay when you're away for a long time? I'll elicit the word hotel from Ss and ask them what do you expect during your stay? I'll show the question: what are the most important characteristic of a hotel? There will be options like price, location, facilities, free Wi-Fi and food and I'll ask Ss to rank them in order of importance in BoRs I'll ask for feedback

Test #1 (5-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

I'll show exercise A on the slide I'll ask Ss to work individually They will match the verb to the correct phrase I'll send them to BoRs to check answers together We'll have a whole class feedback Secondly, I'll ask Ss to listen to a conversation (Mark & Receptionist) to find out what he doesn't need Then, we'll listen again to fill in the gaps in the dialogue I'll get whole class feedback

Teach (5-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

On the PPT slides I'll show verb phrases and useful language for clarifying MFP I'll ask CCQ to elicit the form (what comes after the preposition?) I'll ask if it's formal or informal language to highlight the appropriacy or register I'll drill chunks of language for the correct pronunciation & intonation chorally and then individually

Test #2 (5-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

I'll show the first WB exercise and I'll ask Ss to match the phrases individually I'll send to BoRs to peer check Then class feedback Secondly, I'll ask them to order the dialogue alone first then in groups Class feedback follows

Free practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I'll ask Ss to role-play the dialogue I'll divide the Ss to As & Bs to pair them for the task (write the names in the chat box) I'll give them a few minutes to prepare for the task and make some changes I'll invite them to share publicly I'll write down notes for the DEC Say my goodbyes
