Description

In this lesson, students will practice their productive skills and learn the structure of a for and against essay, as well as useful language to write it in the context of technological advances.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of writing for and against essay in the context of technological advances.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for structuring an essay in the context of technological advances

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show SS a Youtube Video of an animation about "The last job on Earth: imagining a fully automated world". T will pose the question: "Has technology made the world a better place to live?" SS will discuss their opinions for two minutes.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T will share a sample for and against essay discussing the advantages and disadvantages of fast technological advances. T will show example of notes to refer to while writing an essay. Teacher will explain the parts of an essay and identify them in the sample.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Teacher will demonstrate useful language. SS will identify useful phrases in teacher's sample to determine appropriacy within essay structure. T will ask CCQ's to make sure SS understand structure and meaning.

Productive Task(s) (0-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will have 10 minutes to produce own for and against essay to discuss: Has technology made the world a better place to live?

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher will provide SS a google format with checklist for peer review in BOR.
