Description

In this lesson students will learn about vocabulary of house's rooms and other objects they could find at home. I am starting with a personalised lead-in, followed by a quick gist reading of an advert to get them involved into the meaning clarification stage. Then, I am going to give them a quite suitable opportunity to practice what they learned through the controlled and the freer practice. Finally, I am giving them content and language feedback to make sure they got the class's aims.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to personalise the lead-in stage by sharing my experience trying to rent an apartment and how I wanted its plan to be like. I am going to ask the students to share with me their ideas about such an apartment. Discussion questions: 1- What are the most important things I need for that apartment? 2- Do I need it furnished? No 3- Am I buying it? No 4- Is it important to be modern? Yes

Pre-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I am going to introduce the flat's plan and the advert. Next, I am going to ask the students to read the advert, take a screenshot of it and answer exercise 1 from A to E individually. ICQs: 1- Are you working individually? Yes 2- To which point are you matching? E 3- are you matching any words or just in bold? In bold. Then, I am going to start whole class feedback.

Vocabulary Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I am going to go through the MPFA process. Meaning: I am going to elicit the meaning of seven words, 1- furniture 2- a sink 3- an armchair 4- a shelf 5- a cupboard 6- a washbasin 7- a shower supported with CCQs I mentioned in the LA lexis sheet. Pronunciation: Then, moving to the pronunciation part using drilling, back chaining, and showing the stressed syllables and removing any confusion could happen pronouncing those words. Form: I am going to elicit the words form through the examples I provided in the PowerPoint Presentation. Appropriacy: I am going to elicit whether we use those words in formal r informal situations. CCQs: 1- Do we talk with our family or our manager about house furniture? Family. 2- Do we use them in formal or informal situations? Informal I am going to introduce exercise 2 to the students. Secondly, I am going to ask them to take a screen shot of it and answer it. ICQs: 1- Are you matching things in the box with the plan? Yes 2- Are you working individually? Yes That will be supported with a written list of things and rooms we find at home.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with activities that allow them to practice the language they have been taught in a controlled way

EX. 1 workbook page. 38 + the designed one. I am going to introduce the exercises to the students. Then, I am going to ask them answer it individually before I send them to the breakout rooms in order to answer. I am going to go for ICQs to assure they got the instructions clearly: ICQS: WB EX. 1- Are you working individually first? Yes. 2- Are you finding things in the garden in the puzzle? No. In the house. ICQS Designed EX. 1- Are you working in groups first? No 2- Are you completing? Yes Next, I am going to get them to the main room to discuss as a whole group and then showing them the answer key.

Freer practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with activities that allow them to use the language they have been taught in an authentic way

I am going to ask students to go in pairs to the breakout rooms in order to talk about the three adverts in slide 12. I am going to remind them with the apartment I wanted to rent to let them understand what to do. I am going to go for ICQs to assure they got the instructions clearly: ICQs: 1- Are you working alone or in pairs? In pairs. 2- Are you writing or speaking? Speaking 3- Are you talking about any houses or the ones in the ads? The ones in the ads. Next, I am going to get them to the main room to discuss as a whole group.

Language Feedback (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with feedback on accuracy and appropriacy.

Language Feedback: That would be through if they got the MPFA concept mentioned within the class. I am going to show them a couple of sentences I took them as notes while they were in the controlled and the freer practices. and discuss them As: 1- Is it "it have three room" or "it has three rooms"? it has three rooms 2- Is it "it cost" or "it costs"? it costs

Content Feedback (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with feedback on clarity, coherence and effectiveness.

I am going to wrap up the ideas which were discussed in the class. CCQs: 1- Do we sleep in the shower? No, so how we use it? we stand under it. why? to wash our whole body. 2- Do we find furniture in the street? No, Where do we put furniture? houses and buildings. 3- Can we find a sink in the living room? No Where can we find it? in a kitchen or a bathroom. Why do we use it? 4- Do we use the cupboard to throw things away? No, What do we use it for? to store things in it. 5- Can we find a washbasin in a kitchen? No. Where can we find it? in the bathroom. What do we use it for? to wash our hands and faces in it.
