In this lesson, students will learn how to write about a place and describe it.

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of an essay about the place where I live in the context of The Place Where I Live

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of some words such as area, population, historic in the context of The Place Where I Live.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will talk about Tehran and the options it has, such as having many universities and different job vacancies, cinemas, cafes and ...

Set scene for reading a model text (5-7 minutes) • To get students focused on the topic through reading

I want my students to look at page 114 and guess what the content of the text is. Then I want them to read the text to make sure that their guesses were right or wrong.

Reading (5-8 minutes) • Provide the meaning of the text

The students make sure that what the text is about. They will check their answers together and then with the whole class.

Focus On Layout (2-4 minutes) • To provide they way they have to write

I will let them guess how the layout of the text is. Then I will explain the detail of the layout of the text.

Useful Language (3-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will write the keywords on the board such as area, historic, and population. The students try to guess the meanings. Finally, they will get the definition of the words.

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I want my students to write about the place they want to live and describe how it is and what they like about that place. Then they can exchange their writings with their friends to check them.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will check the writings and correct the mistakes and let them know about the mistakes and how to write better.
