Description

The lesson tackles the topic of suggestion and offering through the context of birthdays . The students watch a video that helps them understand the topic further. I will ask Ss to illicit the useful expressions used in the conversations.They will practice listening and speaking .

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of birthdays-suggestions and offers

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about Birthdays in the context of Suggestions and offers

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I introduce the story of a group of friends who are preparing for their friends' birthday. They give her suggestions on how she would do on this special day.

Pre-Teach vocabulary : (4-5 minutes) • To introduce new words that might hinder Ss' undersanding when listening.

Following the ECDW technique, I will introduce the following words to the students : boring concert music festival bowling Thai Kitchen

Gist Task (3-3 minutes) • To give Ls a reason to listen at a general level

Students get introduced to a question( purpose): How many different ideas do you hear for the woman's birthday? Then, they watch a video and get the answer.

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I highlight the useful language, The different ways of offering mentioned in the video, the form of the verb that follows ..., and the way they should respond with. Elicit from Ss ways to refuse and accept.

Specific information task (3-3 minutes) • To give Ls a reason to listen for individual items of information

I introduce students to the useful language , the different ways of making an offer or a suggestion. I draw their attention that they need to order them while watching.Then, they watch again with the purpose of getting the right ordering in mind. Then, they pair check and I provide them with the answer key on the screen.

Specific information task 2 (3-3 minutes) • To give Ls a reason to listen for individual items of information

I introduce students to the question: Where do the friends decide to go to in the end? Then, they watch again with the purpose of getting the need information in mind. Then, they pair check and I provide them with the answer key on the screen.

Productive Task-speaking -Free practice (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I provide students with cards with situations and another card with the different ways to make suggestions and the ways to respond as well as whether it's a yes or a no.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I take notes while students are speaking and then provide content and language feedback.
