Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to talk to salespeople in the context of buying and selling stuff. Also, they will learn certain phrases salespeople use in the same context.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of buying and selling
  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for buying and selling

  • To provide clarification and practice of forming questions in the context of buying and selling

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show an image of a market. Then I talk about my shopping habits to set the context. I ask ss about theirs. Finally, I give them 2 minutes to talk in pairs about their shopping habits.

Preparation (3-5 minutes) • To get the ss ready for exposure

I will elicit some lexis that might hinder ss in the exposure stage. Lexis: department store, guidebook, suitcase, receipt and pin number

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through watching a video

Ss will be asked to do exercise 4 page 60 by watching a video of two buyers in a shop who demonstrate many examples of useful language in the context of buying and selling. Then ss do exercise 5 which is a more detailed one.

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss are shown examples of the useful language in the video. I will drill the examples then ss do exercises 6 and 7 to start practicing the useful language.

Speaking (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In pairs, ss will be buyers and sellers. they will write their conversations in 2 minutes. Then they join another pair to say their conversations. The second pair takes notes of what they are selling and buying and how much it costs. Then the second pair shows their own conversation to the first one and so on.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Through the collected samples, I give feedback on both language and content.
