Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of Collocations with "take"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Interview in the context of practicing the target vocabulary (collocations with "take"

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To introduce the concept of collocations and engage students in the lesson.

I'll give the students some sentences to think about, like: I made my homework or I did my homework? Which is correct? To find out about collocations, then give them 3 pictures to think of other collocations.

Test #1 (4-6 minutes) • To test students' prior knowledge of the target language

They are to check a table of phrases with "take" in a column and their definition in the other column. First, I'll give them a minute to check the table individually. Next, I'll give them simple instructions to work on this task in groups. Then I'll do the ICQs and send them to the breakout rooms.

Teach (12-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

I'll clarify the phrases where the student had difficulty in the first test stage. I'll go through the meaning using CCQs, then move to form (What is take followed by? why? What can this indicate? What is the second form of take? the pp?), then end up with the pronunciation (repetition - stress pattern)

Test #2 (4-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ss. will have a matching activity to match the phrase with the definition. I'll give them a minute to check the whole activity individually, then give them the instructions and send them to the breakout rooms. When time finishes, they come back and discuss the answers.

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students are going to have an interview with each other in pairs. They are asked to answer some specific questions. I'll give them clear structures about the task, put them in pairs, share the questions and send them to breakout rooms. If I have more time I can exchange roles in interview.
