Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher greets the students and tells them that they are going to listen to a mysterious audio. After the students isten for the first time, teacher asks about their ideas and then clicks on the same slide (Slide 2) to reveal questions about the audio. Teacher tells them to think about the answer while listening and discuss as a group. Teacher elicits the answers and reveals the topic on Slide 3. Before they start the reading for gist activity, teacher asks what "giant leap" means and shows the visual as a clue.

Pre-Reading (10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher displays Slide 4 and tells students to read the purple box. T underlines the question and explains students that they will read four giant leaps. Teacher asks them to guess what other important moments they might read today. T writes them on the board. Teacher goes to Slide 5 and asks students to match the pictures with the words in the box. Students do it individually first and check in pairs. T gets the answers from the students and moven on with Slide 6. T asks them to fill in the gaps. Teacher drills the vocabulary items in sentences.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Teacher pairs up the students and delivers HO1. Teacher tells them not unfold the paper and chests where they need to look at first (Student A&B). Teacher asks them to read the text quickly for 1 minute and then students check if their predictions were correct or not. Teacher asks students to read it carefully and answer the questions below. Teacher gives examples answers and demonstrates the activity. Students complete the activity individually. Teacher tells them to unfold the paper and tell about their paragraphs to their partners. As they listen, students take notes about other texts. Teacher displays Slide 9 and gives answers and feedback.

While-Reading #2 (8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Teacher tells students to turn the page and read all four paragraphs. T tells them to answer the questions below individually and then check in pairs. Teacher asks volunteers to share their answers and reveals them on the same slide. (s.10)

Post-Reading/Listening (7-0 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Teacher tells students to choose/find another giant leap in history and do a quick research about it to answer -wh questions. Teacher regroups the students and they share their research.
