In this lesson students will be introduced to the necessary steps to create a Film Review and will practice how to create one based on a layout provided by the teacher.

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a review in the context of films

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about a film review

Procedure

Lead-in (2-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1) T show SS a sequence of images 2) SS need to figure out what going on 3) After seeing all images, SS should be able to guess the topic

Model Analysis (10-12 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

1) T shares ppt with SS 2) T elicits from SS the parts of a Review by giving hints 3) T gives additional details on what to/not include in Part 3 (Summary) - a: nominate 1 student to read summary (three sentences) 4) Then, T elicits from SS which options are Formal/Informal using a chart. 5MIN 5) Then, check with students the MAF (2 examples of formulaic language) 7MIN

Productive Task (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1) Share screen with SS 2) Provide instructions to SS 3) There are 11 slides, each with a Student name. -a: Each SS will work on their corresponding slide writing a review -b: If there are more students, there are some Slides with no name assigned that can be taken 4) This is individual work

Feedback and Error Correction (6-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T explains that SS need to work with a classmate so there can be mutual feedback 1) SS will be sent to BOR for Peer feedback 2) SS will work in pairs preferably 3) Time limit is 7 4) Student A will give feeback to Student B (3min) Student B will give feedback to Student A (3min)
