Procedure (33-50 minutes)
Teacher holds a discussion with students around holidays showing a picture of simple holiday activities to prepare them for the context and get them engaged. Do you like holidays? How do you usually plan for your holidays? How are you going to spend the holiday? Have you ever had a work holiday?
During lead in discussion, the teacher directs the students` attention to a new kind of holiday which is the work holiday. Then the teacher shows a slide with the two new words ' accommodation and work around the world holiday. Students work together to match each word with its definition. accommodation: all your needs on holiday e.g. food, hotel, room. work around the world holiday: to visit a country for free food at amazing sites. Then the teacher shows them the answers to check their work
The teacher explains to students that they`re going to listen to two conversations for two girls, Emily and Chloe talking about their holiday plans and choose a holiday picture for each girl. The teacher uses ICQs to check the students` understanding of the task. If they can`t work it out, the teacher plays the audio one more time.
Teacher explains to students that they are going to listen to the two conversations again to choose the correct answers for the questions on two slides. The teacher uses ICQs to make sure that the students understand that they should listen for specific information. The teacher gives them time to read the questions quickly before listening. Students work individually then check their answers together, then the teacher shows them a slide with the answers to check.
Teacher explains to students that they are going to work together to decide if these sentences are true or false. Then they will listen to the two conversations to check their answers. The teacher explains to students how to focus on the speaker`s words to infer information e.g. 1- Emily isn`t sure if she wants to go on holiday. ( F) because she`s decided. 4- Chloe only wants to go away for two weeks. (F) because she wants a very long holiday.
Students work as a group to discuss these questions to produce language using the information they`ve learnt in the lesson; Do you think it`s a good idea for Cloe and Emily to go on the work around the world holiday? why? why not? What are the good and bad things about these holidays? The teacher monitors them and holds a discussion with them giving them feedback.
