Description

The lesson plan aims to improve students listening and speaking skills through international cuisine. Students explore photographs of international cuisine, guess their origins, and express their eagerness to taste them. They learn new vocabulary and they have different types of activities while listening. After listening, students engage in a speaking activity, sharing their favorite foods and learning from their peers. The plan offers a well-rounded approach, incorporating listening, speaking, vocabulary development, and cultural exploration in an engaging and enjoyable manner.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information, detailed and inference listening practice using a text about world food in the context of food culture.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of food culture.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this part, the teacher shows pictures of some dishes from different countries and asks students two questions to discuss in their groups. The questions are; 1.What countries do you think the food in the picture comes from? 2.Would you eat these dishes? Why /Why not? Then the teacher nominates some students to hear their comments.

Pre-Listening (0-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this part, the teacher asks students to work in pairs and complete the gap filling activity for the new vocabulary of the listening text. In feedback, the teacher nominates some students for the answers. In the end, the teacher asks CCQs to check students' understanding.

While-Listening #1 (0-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this part, the teacher describes the listening text and asks students to read the sentences in Ex.3A quickly before listening. The students need to write the city names near the sentences according to the dialouge. In feedback, the teacher asks for pair acheck first and nominates some students for the answers.

While-Listening #2 (0-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

In this part, the students will listen to the audio again and fill in the gaps in Ex.3B. In feedback, the teacher nominates some students to hear the answers.

Post-Listening (0-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In this part, the teacher demonstrates the questions in Ex. 3C which are about students' favorite cities for good foods and the food details. The teacher also provides a model text for students to prepare their speech accordingly so that they can speak with their partner in a more organized and detailed way. The teacher can change the pairs so that the students can talk with different classmates and learn about their favorite foods.
