Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of writing a (short) online film or book review.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students practice reading for gist when they content check the writing of their peers.
  • To provide scan to find functional language related to give opinion and state facts in films reviews.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss if they could recommend a movie which would it be and one reason.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T shares a short review , and ss have to read it briefly.
h And ask them to answer: What is the film about? Does it tell the end of the story? Should anybody watch it?

Useful Language (4-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T shares shows a review film sample . Ss must point out the parts below: - The Film's tittle -The type of film. When was it made? - What is the film about? Can you find the end of the story? - What's the writer's opinion? Ss tell Which of the sentences talk about the story and which talk about the reviewer's reactions to the film.They write S (story) or R (reactions).

Productive Task(s) (20-25 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T share a link so ss can write their review online. Which needs to include: Movie or Film title The type of film. Facts like when it was made Story explanation Personal opinion If they recommend it or not Then in BOR s review their partner's text using the content checklist.
 Ss exchange feedback with partner about content checklist.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T does delayed error correction grammar if needed.
Option to do feedback on use of language or formulations.
