Main Aims

  • To provide process and product in order to give my students the opportunity to write their own film review.

Subsidiary Aims

  • * To provide them marker sentences ● They will be able to recognise the form and meaning of different marker sentences. ● They will have developed the capacity of writing a film review adding positive and negative adjectives and different presented structures worked during the whole lesson.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In order to introduce the topic, I will ask them four questions. I will nominate some students to answer them orally annotating their contributions. Finally, I will conduct OCFB. The questions that I will ask them are: 1. What is your favourite film? 2. Why do you like it? 3. What is it genre? 4. Do you prefer watching films at home or going to the cinema?

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will show the students my own example of a film review.

Useful Language (8-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will help my students to identify the different sections (parts) of the film review. In order to identify the diferent sections I will ask them questions such as: 1. Does it contain a title and a subtible? 2. How many paragraphs does it contain? Then, I will ask my students to identify the language presented at the film review demo asking them the following questions: 1. Is the language presented in the film review formal, neutral or informal? What is more, I will explain them, by some marker sentences, that to write a film review we have to include sentences in the present simple and in the passive voice. What is more, I will ask them to analyze the marker sentences telling me how they recognice a sentence expressed in the passive form and in the present simple. Finally, I will ask my students to think for synomyns of some of the words presented at the different marker sentences and to tell me if the words are adjectives, nouns or verbs.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will ask my students to write their own film review including the different tips for writing, adjectives and structures presented and worked during the lesson.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will ask my students to read a peer´s film review and then to complete a checklist in order to give to his/her partner a feedback at BOR.
