Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T displays a slide with the questions: -Do youhave any plans for this summer? Let ss participate / Nominates ss. T types some of the ideas ss shared on the slide.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T displays a Google Form: T asks ss to read a conversation and to answer 2 questions (2 min) - Who do you think is talking? Two colleagues - What are they talking about? Future plans OCFB

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T displays a slide with the conversation. T asks ss to identify 2 sentences that talk about future plans and 2 questions to ask about other people's plans? Ss share their answers. T changes the colour of the sentences selected. I'm going to Italy with my friends. We are taking a midnight flight...

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING T displays another slide with the sentences selected and elicits from ss with CCQ's. Google forms** - What are these sentences talking about? Past, present or future? - Does Arlett know exactly when these events are happening? Yes - Did she book the tickets already? Yes - So are these plans possible or definite? - How do we know? Arlett is certain of when this plan is happening. FORM T displays a slide with with the sentences selected and asks ss: - What similarities can you find between the two sentences? the verb with -ing* T then displays the formula: subject + be + verb -ing - Does it follow this formula? Yes - What is the subject? I, we - The verb be? am, are - the verb with ing? going, flying (T highlights each component as ss answer) Do you know what tense is this? Present continuous. T displays another slide to recap meaning and form: "We can use present continuous to talk about the future when arrangements have been made and we are sure when they are happening". - Is there anything that indicates when? next monday / at midnight so we can add time expressions: In a new slide T displays the formula and elicit from ss. Which formula fits better? subject + present continuous so, what is present continuous? What are the words that conform present continuous? verb be + verb -ing T then compares the formula with the examples and highlights the components with different colors. PRONUNCIATION

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T displays a Google Form with incomplete sentences. Ss are asked to complete the sentences with the correct form of the verbs. Ss check answers together in BOR (3 min) OCFB Ask ss to read aloud to practice

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
