PAPARAZZI. 5) "Do you like to read tabloids?" 6) "Do you think the stories in tabloids are true?" 7) "Why do you think people like to read about celebrities?" 8) "Do any of these pictures or headlines look familiar to you? Do you remember any of these events?" 9) "Are there any other recent events you remember seeing in the tabloids?"
- T transitions to the third slide of the Google Slide presentation, featuring the content preparation activity link: "Now we are going to read a dialogue between two friends, who are discussing a tabloid article. I will give you 1 minute to read the dialogue and identify the main topic.” - T ICQs: “Are you looking for the general idea or specific details?” (General) - T times and notifies students once time has elapsed. - T asks: “So what is the main topic of discussion here?” (An article about Shakira/Pique’s breakup) - T instructs: “Ok, now you will have 2 minutes to read again and identify phrases that Jen uses to summarize information from the text.” - T ICQs: “Are you reading for specific information about the article, or phrases that are used to summarize the article?” (Phrases) - T times and notifies students once time has elapsed. - T asks: “What phrases did you find?” - T asks: “Ok, and now take 30 seconds to scan and find one phrase Jen uses to ask a question.” - T times and notifies students once time has elapsed. - T asks: “Which phrase does Jen uset?” - After all questions have been answered, T goes to fourth slide and now all target language phrases are highlighted: “To summarize, these are the key phrases used to summarize and ask questions about the article.”
- T transitions to the 5th slide of the Google Slide presentation, featuring the MAFP guided discovery activity: "In this activity, you will match the meaning of each phrase and you will categorize each phrase as used for summarizing or asking questions. You will have 3 minutes in breakout rooms to do this." - T sends to breakout room and times, and once time has elapsed T closes breakout rooms. - T goes over answers, then asks Ss if they have any questions. If not, T moves on to next slide which covers form and pronunciation more in-depth.
- T assigns articles at random to each student: "Now we are going to practice using the target language. I am assigning each of you a random article from TMZ, a popular gossip site. You have 3 minutes to read your article, then I will send you to breakout rooms and you will summarize your article and ask a question about your article to your partner. You can discuss the question together. Then the other person will do the same for their article. After 5 minutes, I will switch you to new partners, so you will get to practice this 4 times." - T models with an article. Then T shows the article assignments and sends Ss to breakout rooms. T monitors and moves people around.
- T provides error correction based on errors observed in productive task.
