Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about online shopping

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets the ss. T asks them 2 questions: -Do you enjoy shopping online? -Which kind of items do you buy? Ss share their ideas.

Exposure (3-3 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T presents them with a gist task. The report is about Online Shopping in Mexico. Ss are going to read the text for 2 minutes and answer the question: "What is the issue with online shopping in Mexico?" Is it positive or negative? <---

Useful Language (7-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T elicits the structure of the text from students. How is the text connected? What do the paragraphs refer to? (introduction, main body, problem, conclusion) Is the text formal, informal, or neutral? T presents useful language. Are there any issues with these sentences? What do we use them for? According to… In the main… Such as… Generally speaking… In most cases… On the whole… T clarifies in case there are questions

Productive Task(s) (25-25 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Preparation T gives ss 2 minutes to choose a topic of their liking that they already know about. Could be from their job or any other special interests. Writing: T asks them to write their report using the previously reviewed useful language. (15 minutes). T asks if there are any questions before they start. Publishing: After that, ss are going to BO rooms for 8 minutes to read and comment on their classmates' reports.

Feedback and Error Correction (7-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Once they come back T acknowledges their talk. T asks them if they want to share their reports. T checks any corrections. T does as many as time allows. T asks if there are any questions left. T says goodbye to students.
